Barefoot through the Bindies: Growing up in North Queensland in the early 1900’s

Written By: Marion Houldsworth, Published by: Central Queensland University Press in 2002

This great read that Marion Houldsworth put together was depicted from recordings taken during The Oral History Project in the 1980’s hosted by the James Cook University.  The recorded stories were from elderly Australians that had lived in 1900’s. These Australians are situated in Northern Queensland and it illustrates the great Australian pioneering spirit. The families mentioned underwent struggles of hardships, uncertainty and isolation but were still able to find joy in the simplicity of life. These stories are incredible, the obstacles they had to overcome make it a great read.
